This is my Piri Piri plant, finally sprouting out of the soil!

Here is one of my favorite subjects after one of his favorite activities.

This is a photo of a gift that we gave out to several of our neighbors this year. We made the jam from plums on our own plum tree. Sarah then decorated it using paper and punches sold by Stampin' Up!
I'd like to hear some comments on the photo. I'm new to product photography and would like to hear some honest critique.

I'm a little slow posting my photos from the latest photowalk. I've got some mixed feelings about this batch of photos. I think they are good, but nothing stands out as great. I'm thinking they are all a bit on the dark side and after some reading tonight, I think I need to go back when there is still some light left.
I'd love to hear your comments.

I know it doesn't look like much, but this is the resting place of my Piri Piri seed for now.
-- Nikon D80, 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, 1/60 at f/6.3, 40mm
I recently purchased some Piri Piri seeds from South Africa. In English, that's an African Devil pepper. I ate them quite a bit in Portugal. They are quite spicy.
I wanted to grow one, so I thought I'd blog the whole thing. This is Day 0. The seed in focus is the one that hit the dirt.

Most of my photos seem to be centered around food lately. Here's another delicious pie from Thanksgiving.
-- Nikon D80, 50mm f/.18 lens, 1/80 at f/2.8, 50mm
I love this pie. My wife is an amazing cook. This is from Thanksgiving dinner. (I'm getting behind!)

I love this photo. My two favorite people at their happiest. What could be better?

Look at that sky! This is from the Gardner Village photowalk and the sky was just amazing that day. This is simple photo of a light post with a beautiful blue background.

Another photo from a recent photowalk at Gardner Village. My wife has told me every day since how much fun she had. It was a great day to get out with the family.

Here is the first of several photos I took on a recent photowalk. These were taken at Gardner Village in West Jordan during their Witch-a-palooza.

I grabbed this shot as I was leaving a strobist group at the Salt Lake City public library. I stepped out and saw this building begging for a photo. Luckily, I had my tripod on me.

It's been a while since I posted anything, let's just say I've been been busy and keep it at that. I found time to go to a photowalk today and this is the first photo from that series.

I recently stayed at Bear Lake with my extended family. This is our view from the deck of the cabin.

This is my first attempt at a humingbird. The lighting was not ideal, but I think it turned out okay.
-- Nikon D80, 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, 1/400 at f/5.6, 80mm
This was taken at a family gathering near Garden City, UT (Bear Lake). This is my nephew and what a great kid!
-- Nikon D80, 50mm f/1.8 lens, 1/30 at f/5, 50mm
This is my nephew and son. My sister-in-law bought matching outfits for them and we threw together a photo shoot. I thought this one turned out nicely.

I received an email today from Schmap saying that one of my photos has been short-listed for an online publication of Salt Lake City. The photo in question is this pic of the Hotel Monaco sign.
Should I accept, this will be the first time one of my photos is published.

This is my first attempt at the Orton Effect. What do you think?

I posted a similar pic earlier. This one puts a different perspective on the scene.

This is my in-law's cabin. It's a great little escape from society. This photo was taken at twilight.

This was our view during our stay at Sun Valley. One night while enjoying the cool breeze and the setting sun, I pulled out the tripod and snapped some shots of the scenery and lights of the passing cars.

'nuff said.
-- Nikon D80, 50mm f/1.8 lens, 1/60 at f/1,8, 50mm
Okay, pun intended. I drive past this field ever day on the way to work. I've been waiting for them to bale the hay so that I could take a picture. I think this barn is quite rustic looking.
-- Nikon D80, 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, 1/50 at f/10, 125mm
This is my son. You can tell he loves his mother. He also rolled over for the first time today.

I was in Sun Valley with my wife's family last week. We went for a walk as the sun was setting and this was one of my shots.

A bag of crap, you ask? it's actually 3 craps and one bag. At least, that's what I bought, this is what showed up.
So what's in the box?
1 - Belkin TuneSynce for iPod
1 - Targus Digital Memory Card case
1 - Porcelain Tootsie Pop collectible
4 - Logitech Xbox Live headsets
4 - Buzztime Home Trivia System game cartridges, History
So how much did all this stuff set me back?
$8
And why would I pay that much for this.... crap?
It all boils down to fun really. There is this site called woot that has a deal every day. Sometimes, if you are lucky, you can purchase a bag of crap for $1. For an extra $2, you get an extra 2 craps. Shipping is $5, and they throw in the bag. The crap is basically whatever they want to send you that they have sitting around. It's usually something that no one wants to buy or is out-dated (or both).
This is my second bag of crap (BOC) from woot. I think it is better than my first one. While I have no idea what to do with for identical cartridges to a game system I will never own, $8 was a great price for the Belkin iPod dock/charger.

This is one of those posts where I just don't know what to say. I had fun, I learned a little, it's not necessarily a great composition, but you get to see my goofy mug.
-- Nikon D80, 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, 2 at f/11, 18mm
I've cropped the photo in, as suggested by titanium_wombat. I definitely think it definitely makes for a better composition. Your thoughts?
This is me and my family. The photo was taken near my in-laws cabin which is up Weber canyon. This is a great spot for a photo, though, my son was not in any mood to get his picture taken. This is one that I salvaged.
I'd love to hear some critique on this, what went well, what should I work on next time?
